KEVIN MURPHY clarinet

[Image: Kevin Murphy]Kevin Murphy is a native of Minnesota. He is currently Head of Woodwind at Wells Cathedral School, where he also teaches clarinet and conducts the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. His students have enjoyed consistent success in national competitions and ensembles. Prior to assuming his post at Wells, he held positions as Clarinet and Saxophone Professor at Southern Illinois and Oklahoma State Universities.

Prior to those teaching positions Dr. Murphy was clarinettist in Mexico’s Veracruz Symphony Orchestra and subsequently with the New American Woodwind Quintet, including a month-long European tour which included concerts in the Concertgebouw and Vienna's Musikverein. He has also performed as guest recitalist at various colleges and universities throughout the United States and remains active with freelance performances throughout England and Wales.

Dr Murphy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, a Master of Music degree from Michigan State University where he studied with Fred Ormand and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in clarinet performance and literature from the University of Illinois while studying with Howard Klug. In addition to his duties at Wells, he teaches clarinet at Bristol University is a member of the Executive Committee of the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain and has been tutor for the National Youth Wind Orchestra, National Children's Orchestra and the Liverpool Clarinet Summer School.
